ThunderWolves suffer 37-13 dual loss at Colorado Mines


GOLDEN, Colo. (February 10, 2016) – The No. 19 Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team allowed too many big bout victories in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference 37-13 dual loss at Colorado School of Mines Wednesday.

The Orediggers (7-4, 1-4 RMAC) totaled four pins and a major decision to secure their first conference win, while the Pack (2-9, 1-3 RMAC) recorded two technical falls.

Sophomore Sam Hughes (Bolivar, Mo.) got the Pack on the board with a clean 15-0 technical fall at 133 following the second period to post five team points. Sophomore JaCobi Jones (Omaha, Neb.) won next as he earned a 14-7 decision at 157 to earn his seventh straight victory.

The two combined for eight points, but a forfeit at 125 and CSM falls at 141 and 149 gave the home team an 18-8 advantage through five weight classes.

The deficit was 25-8 when junior John Lewis (Parker, Colo.) recorded a tech fall (16-0) at 184 in the second period.

Two Oredigger wins by pin fall in the final two weight classes capped the dual, 37-13.

Thursday, the ThunderWolves will battle No. 11 Colorado Mesa University (7-2) in a 7 p.m. RMAC dual in Grand Junction, Colo.


As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
