Jones, Williams and Mitchell prepped and ready for NCAA Wrestling Championships


PUEBLO, Colo. (March 8, 2016) – Three members of the No. 17 Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team are headed to the NCAA Division II Wrestling Championships March 11-12 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

The ThunderWolves were ranked No. 17 nationally in the final coaches poll before the championships. Sophomore JaCobi Jones (Omaha, Neb.) was ranked No. 5 at 157, as he enters his second NCAA Championships. Junior heavyweight Jacob Mitchell (Portland, Ore.) earned No. 3 after he collected the NCAA Super Region Four title. Junior Tarrence Williams (Portland, Ore.) was not ranked in the top eight entering his first NCAA Division II Championship.

All-American in 2015 after finishing sixth as a freshman at 165 … Jones, who ranks No. 5 nationally, was runner-up at this year's NCAA Division II Super Region Four Championship, as he lost (5-2 decision) to No. 3 Brady Bersano of Cal-Baptist … The regional semifinal loss was his first setback in the previous 10 matches, which included a 3-0 effort at the RMAC Championships to be crowed champion at 157 … All-RMAC First Team … Owns a 22-8 record with six pins and four major decisions … Went 5-1 in dual competition … Finished second at the Colorado Mesa Open (Nov. 14) and third at the UNK Holiday Inn Loper Open (Nov. 21).


Will be making his first appearance at the NCAA Division II Championships after earning All-American honors at the JUCO level … Went 4-1 at the regional to earn third place in Super Region Four … Owns a 12-2 record with one fall and four major decisions … Was 2-0 in RMAC duals … Finished second at the RMAC Championships and earned All-RMAC Second Team Honors … Went 4-0 at the Colorado Mesa Open (Nov. 14) and started the season 8-0 before suffering the RMAC championship loss.


Making return to the NCAA Division II Championships after he was the national runner-up in 2014 with Cal-Baptist … Ranks No. 3 nationally after winning the NCAA Division II Super Region Four Championship with a perfect 3-0 record … Owns a 14-1 record after becoming eligible at semester (one-year transfer rule) … Was runner-up at the RMAC Championships, with his lone loss coming to CBU's Joseph Fagiano, who he beat in the region final … Earned All-RMAC Second Team recognition … Recorded 11 pin falls to rank No. 7 (14:38) in NCAA Division II for falls … Was a perfect 7-0 in duals with six falls and was 3-0 in RMAC dual competition with two falls … Started the season with a 10-0 record before the setback in the RMAC championship match.
