Six members of Pack wrestling honored as Academic All-RMAC

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (April 4, 2016) – Six members of the Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team were honored Monday as Academic All-Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Honor Roll, in an announcement from the league office. 

To be eligible for consideration, a student-athlete must carry a 3.30 cumulative grade point average and must have been an active student at the institution for at least two consecutive semesters or three consecutive quarters.

The 2016 Academic All-RMAC Honor Roll recipients from CSU-Pueblo were:

Keith Karnes * (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) with a 3.74 in political science
Dixon Richins (Jr., Coalville, Utah) with a 3.59 in business.
Larry Schmueser ** (Graduate, Rifle, Colo.) with a 3.33 in business adminstration
Steven Ullman (So., Arvada, Colo.) with a 3.43 in business management
Tim Urenda (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) with a 3.3 in exercise science
Rick Weirich (Jr., Tecumseh, Mich.) with a 3.32 in EXHPR-Teacher Pre K-12

The ThunderWolves finished 12th at the NCAA Division II National Championships and raised the hand of three All-Americans.

The team ranking of 12th was the best since the program re-start in 2008 (previous best was fifth in 2001). The three All-Americans was also a program-best since 2008 (six in 2001).

The All-Americans included Jacob Mitchell (Jr., Portland, Ore.), who was fifth at heavyweight, Tarrence Williams (Jr., Portland, Ore.) at 174 (seventh) and JaCobi Jones (So., Omaha, Neb.) at 157 (eighth). Mitchell was the NCAA Super Region Four Champion, while Jones won at 157 at the RMAC Championships.

As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
