Reno Tournament of Champions awaits Pack wrestling Sunday


PUEBLO, Colo. (December 17, 2016) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team will wrap the 2016 portion of its schedule Dec. 18 at the Reno Tournament of Champions. The all-day event in Reno, Nevada begins at 9 a.m. MST.

Wrestlers from 26 schools from all NCAA, NAIA and junior college levels make up the field this year. The lineup inlcudes some of the nation's best at the Division I level, including No. 1 Oklahoma State, No. 2 Penn State and No. 5 Missouri. Also joining the ThunderWolves from the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference is No. 23 Colorado Mesa University.

The ThunderWolves wrestled in two tournaments this fall, with the last being the Nebraska-Kearney Holiday Inn Open Nov. 19. Kyle Fantin (R-So., Crave Creek, Ariz.) guided the ThunderWolves with a fourth-place finish at 157. The Pack had four total wrestlers finish in the top six of the elite tournament. Sophomore Josiah Seaton (Bonner Springs, Kan.) was fifth at 125 and senior Kyle Bateman (Sandy, Ore.) was also fifth while wrestling at 174. John Lewis (R-Jr., Parker, Colo.) placed sixth at 184.

197 - Cody Johnson (Jr., Broken Arrow, Okla.)
HWT - Augie DeSantis (R-Jr., Escondido, Calif.)

After the holiday break, the Pack will wrestle right after the new year at the National Duals in Fort Wayne, Indiana Jan. 5-6.
