ThunderWolves set for National Duals Jan. 5-6

DUALS WEBSITE AND BRACKET

PUEBLO, Colo. (January 3, 2016) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team will compete with some of the best in NCAA Division II at the NWCA National Duals in Fort Wayne, Indiana, Jan. 5-6.

The ThunderWolves' first matchup will be against No. 6 Mercyhurst University at 9 a.m. MST. CSU-Pueblo will then wrestle either No. 3 Notre Dame (Ohio) or No. 15 University of Indianapolis at 1 p.m. MST. The meet is set up in a bracket format with team duals determining advanment until a team is crowned champion.

The meet features 16 teams and includes eight of the top 10 programs in the national rankings. Two-time defending NCAA Division II National Champion and No. 1 St. Cloud State University highlights the group.

The Pack are coming off the Dec. 18 Reno Tournament of Champions where junior Cody Johnson (197, Broken Arrow, Okla.) finished sixth and junior JaCobi Jones (165, Omaha, Neb.) reached the quarterfinals of the elite tournament. As a team, the ThunderWolves were ninth.

Regional rankings were released Tuesday and placed the Pack No. 5 in Super Region Four. Eight indivudals were ranked regionally as Josiah Seaton (So., Bonner Springs, Kan.) was fifth at 125, PT Garcia (R-So., Denver, Colo.) was eighth at 133, Jared Mestas (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) was eighth at 141, Clay Archer (Jr., Broken Arrow, Okla.) was fifth at 149, Kyle Fantin (R-So., Crave Creek, Ariz.) was third at 157, Jones was first at 165, Kyle Bateman (Sr., Sandy, Ore.) was seventh at 174 and JaVaughn Perkins (R-Fr., Omaha, Neb.) was fifth at 184.
