PUEBLO, Colo. (January 20, 2017) - The No. 13 Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team completed the 2-0 sweep of the home week with a 31-6 victory against Rocky Mountain Athletics Conference foe New Mexico Highlands University. JaVaughn Perkins (R-Fr., Omaha, Neb.) and Augie DeSantis (R-Jr., Escondido, Calif.) recorded pins for the Pack.
The ThunderWolves were bumped up to No. 13 nationally in the latest poll Thursday and proved their ranking by winning eight bouts against the Cowboys. Perkins, ranked No. 6 nationally, only needed 19 seconds to record a pin at 184, as he moved the ThunderWolves' lead to 22-6. DeSantis capped the evening with a second period pin at 4:51.
Ranked No. 7 nationally, senior Kyle Bateman (174, Sandy, Ore.) recorded the first major decision of the match with a 20-7 victory. The ThunderWolves won five of their battles by just three or more points, including Kyle Fantin's (R-So., Crave Creek, Ariz.) 2-1 bout win at 157.
Next up for the CSU-Pueblo, the Pack will travel to No. 9 Central Oklahoma Jan. 23, then will be at Western State Colorado University Jan. 26. The Pack return home Jan. 28 against No. 2 University of Nebraska-Kearney.
