PUEBLO, Colo. (January 22, 2017) - The No. 13 Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling teams hits the road for a pair of duals Jan. 23 against No. 9 University of Central Oklahoma and Jan. 26 versus Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference for Western State Colorado University. Monday's bout is scheduled for 6 p.m. MST, while Thursday's battle is slated for 7 p.m. MST.
The Pack were bumped up to No. 13 from No. 21 in the latest National Wrestling Coaches Association poll Thursday. It was the biggest jump by any team in the poll and marked the highest the ThunderWolves have been ranked since the restart of the program in 2008.
CSU-Pueblo is 7-3 in duals and opened its home portion of the schedule with a 2-0 record, as they defeated rival Colorado Mesa University 25-6 and New Mexico Highlands University 31-6. Five student-athletes went 2-0, which included JaVaughn Perkins (R-Fr., Omaha, Neb.) who recorded an 8-5 decision win against CMU and a pin in just 19 seconds against NMHU.
The new national rankings also were released Thursday and placed junior JaCobi Jones (Omaha, Neb.) fourth at 165, senior Kyle Bateman (Sandy, Ore.) seventh at 174 and Perkins sixth at 184. Eight wrestlers are ranked in Super Region Four.
Central Oklahoma sits ninth nationally and owns a perfect 14-0 record in duals. UCO has three wrestlers ranked nationally at weight classes 125 (fourth), 197 (fourth) and 285 (second).
Western State is 5-4 overall in dual competition with a 3-1 mark at home. They are 1-1 in RMAC play. At 125, Ronnie Wardleigh is the lone wrestler ranked, as he is third.
