GUNNISON, Colorado (January 26, 2107) - The No. 13 Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team suffered a 22-15 loss at Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference-for Western State Colorado University, Thursday.
The ThunderWolves (7-5, 2-2 RMAC) trailed 13-3 after four bouts, as PT Garcia (R-So., Denver, Colo.) earned the lone decision victory (6-2) at 133.
The Pack won three of the next four matches and trailed just 16-12 after eight matches. Kyle Fantin (R-So., Cave Creek, Ariz.) won at 157 with a 5-3 decision, then No. 4 JaCobi Jones (Jr., Omaha, Neb.) won 7-4 at 165.
Senior Kyle Bateman (Sandy, Ore.) suffered a sudden victory loss at 174, which could have give the Pack their first lead of the dual.
Reigning RMAC Wrestler of the Week, No. 6 JaVaughn Perkins (R-Fr., Omaha, Neb.), jumped out to an 8-0 lead in his match at 184, but couldn't earn the extra team points to settle for an 8-4 decision victory.
The second pin of the evening for the Mountaineers, this time at 197, secured the dual win, as the home team led 22-12 with only the heavyweight bout.
Augie DeSantis (R-Jr., Escondido, Calif.) capped the match with a slim 2-1 victory, but CSU-Pueblo suffered their second loss in a row.
The ThunderWolves will host No. 2 University of Nebraska-Kearney Saturday at Massari Arena beginning at 7 p.m.
As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
