No. 15 Pack Wrestling hosts Mines Wednesday; Wraps dual season Thursday-Saturday


PUEBLO, Colo. (Febrary 7, 2017) - Coming off winning the 2017 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championship, the No. 15 Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team will host Colorado School of Mines Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Massari Arena in the final home dual of 2016-17. Before the bout, four Pack seniors will be recognized.

The ThunderWolves then wrap the dual season on the road Thursday at Adams State University and Saturday at Chadron State College.

The ThunderWolves had nine wrestlers place fifth or better at the Championships, guided by junior JaCobi Jones (Omaha, Neb.). He won the RMAC Championship at 165 to become a two-time conference champion after winning the event at 157 a season ago.

Ranked No. 4 nationally, Jones owns an 11-4 record with four falls. Also ranked No. 4 in NCAA Division II, JaVaughn Perkins (R-Fr., Omaha, Neb.) is 10-4 with five falls. He was one for four members of the Pack that finished third at the RMAC Championships. 

Heavyweight Augie DeSantis (Escondido, Calif.) will be one of the four seniors honored before Wednesday's dual. He was third at the RMAC Championships and owns a 16-12 overall record with six falls this season.

Kyle Bateman (Sandy, Ore.) was fifth at 174 and will be recognized with the seniors. He leads the team this season in wins with a 22-10 record. He is ranked No. 10 nationally and owns a team-high seven pin falls this season.

Finally, Sam Hughes (Bolivar, Mo.) and Phil Young (Casper, Wyo.) will be honored on senior night. Hughes has compiled a 7-9 record this season at 133 and 141, while Young owns a 3-5 record at 165.

Colorado Mines finished eighth at the RMAC Championships and own a 4-7 dual record (1-4 RMAC). Adams State was seven at the conference tournament and is 1-8 in duals (0-5 RMAC). Finally, Chadron State capped the RMAC Championships in fifth and are 7-1 in dual competition (6-0 RMAC).
