No. 13 ThunderWolves roll to 35-6 road dual win at Adams State


ALAMOSA, Colo. (February 9, 2017) - The No. 13 Colorado State University-Pueblo wrestling team posted a 35-6 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference road dual victory against Adams State University Thursday.

The ThunderWolves (10-5, 4-2 RMAC) recorded nine bout victories in securing their third straight dual win. The final dual of the season is set for Saturday at Chadron State College.

The Pack jumped out to a quick 17-0 lead, as the match started at 141 and Jared Mestas (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) won by technical fall, 20-2 with a minute and a half left in the bout. Clay Archer (R-So., Broken Arrow, Okla.) then posted a first-period pin in 2:51 at 149, followed by a second-period pin (4:39) at 157 by Kyle Fantin (R-So., Crave Creek, Ariz.).

Junior No. 4 JaCobi Jones (Omaha, Neb.) added to the lead with a 14-11 victory at 165, then 174 No. 10 Kyle Bateman (Sr., Sandy, Ore.) posted a 6-1 win and the Pack opened a 23-0 advantage.

The ThunderWolves fell at 184, but recorded decision victories in the final four bouts. Steven Ullman (R-So., Arvada, Colo.) won 8-5 at 197 and Augie DeSantis (Sr., Escondido, Calif.) posted an 8-6 win at heavyweight.

Josiah Seaton (Jr., Bonner Springs, Kan.) added a 4-2 victory at 125, then PT Garcia (R-So., Denver, Colo.) posted an upset at 133, as he defeated No. 7 Martin Ramirez by the score of 9-5. Garcia lost to Ramirez in the RMAC Championships semifinals Saturday.


As a member of the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference, Colorado State University – Pueblo competes in 22 varsity sports in NCAA Division II intercollegiate athletics.
