COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (February 15, 2017) - The Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference doled out its final RMAC Wrestler of the Week award Wednesday, which recognized Colorado State University-Pueblo's PT Garcia (R-So., Denver, Colo.) for his efforts in a 3-0 finish to the dual season for the ThunderWolves.
Garcia was on of two, two-time winners of the weekly honor this season, as he also was recognized Jan. 31. The Pack had three of the 10 awards this season, as JaVaughn Perkins (R-Fr., Omaha, Neb.) pinned his way to the honor Jan. 24.
Coming off a third-place finish at the RMAC Championships, Garcia went 2-0 with two upset victories against RMAC opponents. In a dual win at Adams State, Garcia capped the 35-6 victory with a 9-5 win against No. 7 Martin Ramirez (finished second at the RMAC Championships). Two days later, Garcia recorded a 6-0 sweep of the RMAC Champion and No. 7 Taylor Summers. He helped the Pack win 29-9 at Chadron State to cap the dual season 11-5 overall and 5-2 in RMAC duals. Garcia didn't allow a takedown in the two wins against top 10 opponents.
Garcia will take a 12-4 record into the NCAA Super Region Four Championships, Saturday, Feb. 24-25 in Golden, Colorado.
