LARAMIE, Wyo. (November 4, 2017) - The No. 7 Colorado State University-Pueblo Wrestling team opened the season Saturday at the Cowboy Open, hosted by the University of Wyoming.
The ThunderWolves had two athletes in the consolation round of four in the amateur division of 149. Sophomore Jair Flores (Pueblo, Colo.) went 3-2 for the Pack, as he posted three decision victories. The last win was by an 11-6 decision to move into the round of four. He lost by a major decision, 13-4, to end his day. Sophomore Gavin Melendez (Los Banos, Calif.) had a bye and medical forfiet to move him on in the championship bracket, but a loss dropped him to the consolation side. His lone win was a tech fall by the score of 19-3.
Sophomore Aaron Benton (Yuba City, Calif.) grabbed two wins at 165 in the amateur division, as he won both matches by fall. The first was at 1:32 and his third bout was also a first period fall at 1:07. He finished 2-2.
Three juniors earned a win in the championship division. Josiah Seaton (Bonner Springs, Kan.) picked up a major decision win (16-4) at 125, Levi Maes (Englewood, Colo.) won by fall at 3:52 in the 141 weight class and Preston Lauterbach (Bellevue, Neb.) also got a first period fall at 1:31 at 174.
