Pack opens floodgates vs. U. of the Southwest

The ThunderWolves finally got the confidence boost they needed Friday as they Pack took it to visit NAIA University of the Southwest by an 11-0 score, one of the biggest wins in school history.

Three ThunderWolves turned in multi-goal games, including a hat trick by Morgan Purkey (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.), who came off the bench net three goals on four shots.  She also added an assist for a seven-point day, the third-highest single-game point total by any ThunderWolf in team history.

Candice Duffy (Sr., Idaho Falls, Idaho) and Leanne Carberry (Jr., Idledale, Colo.) each turned in two-goal games.  Overall, seven different ThunderWolves netted goals as the Pack uncorked 24 shots on the visiting Mustangs.

Meanwhile, keepers Randi Walters (Sr., Oxnard, Calif.) and Jessica Stumpf (Jr., Baltimore, Md.) combined for the shutout, facing five shots by the Mustangs and making just two saves.

The win is the second-largest margin of victory in ThunderWolf history and the second time the Pack has scored more than 10 goals in a single game.  On Sept. 5, 1997, CSU-Pueblo defeated Minnesota-Morris by a 13-0 margin.

The ThunderWolves will see a large increase in their competition once they return to the field Sunday, opening their conference schedule with arguable the toughest team in the RMAC, Metro State.  Game time is 1 p.m.
