PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 21, 2010) - Fresh off its upset of 10th-ranked Fort Lewis Friday night, CSU-Pueblo entered the NSCAA Central Region rankings for the first time, the NSCAA announced Tuesday.
The ThunderWolves weighed in tied for 7th in the region (with New Mexico Highlands) with a 3-2 record so far this year. At 1-0 in conference play, they are currently tied for the RMAC lead along with Colorado Mines (2-0), Metro State (1-0-1) and New Mexico Highlands (1-0-1).
The ranking marks the first time the team has been ranked under the tenure of coach Janet Cassidy, and the first time it had been ranked since the end of the 2008 season, when it was ranked 9th in the region.
The regional rankings help determine which teams qualify for the NCAA Division II National Tournament. The top six teams from the Central Region earn an invite to the national tournament. The ThunderWolves have never qualified for the national tournament.
CSU-Pueblo has a heavy week in front of it, first having a "Steel and Silver Series" battle at UC-Colorado Springs Wednesday before returning home to host Regis Friday night and Nebraska-Kearney Sunday afternoon.
