PUEBLO, Colo (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 13, 2010) - The CSU-Pueblo ThunderWolves played to a 2-2 tie against rival UC-Colorado Springs Wednesday.

The tie gave the Moutain Lions points towards the "Steel and Silver" series, as they defeated the Pack earlier in the season 2-1.

The Pack got on the board just 12 minutes in the game when Gabby Gonzales (Jr., Centennial, Colo.) scored on a deep free kick beating Mountain Lion keeper Kelly Schroeder to put the ThunderWolves up 1-0.

The lead was quickly relinquished though after a misplay from starting goalkeeper Jessica Stumpf (Sr., Baltimore, Md.) led to an open goal for Mountain Lion forward Julia Saenz. The teams would trade blows throughout the first half but the score would remain tied.

Leading goal-scorer Katie Thiebaut (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) would finally put away a chance after a skirmish in front of the net, with the ball finally finding the foot of Avila Garcia (So., Bosque Farms, N.M.). Garcia would eventually find Thiebaut who would put away the shot for her ninth goal of the season, and 2-1 Pack lead.

But just as the Mountain Lions did earlier in the game, they found an answer to the Pack lead. After a rebound off a blocked shot, Josi Talbot found herself alone with the ball, only to tuck it past the Pack goalkeeper to tie the game 2-2.

The teams played an even back-and-forth game through regulation forcing the Pack's fourth overtime game of the year.

The best opportunity for either team came late in the first overtime when Thiebaut fired a shot past the Mountain Lion goalkeeper only to ring off the top bar.

The tie moves the Pack's overall record to 4-7-1 overall and 2-5-1 in RMAC play. The Pack have a busy weekend ahead as they hit the road Friday to play Metro State and Sunday to play Regis University. Friday's game is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. while Sundays game has a start time of 3:30 p.m.
