Pack stays hot, defeats Falcons
ThunderWolves win third straight game headed into conference play
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 11, 2011) - The CSU-Pueblo continued it's hot start to the season Sunday with a dramatic overtime win against Texas-Permian Basin. Alicia Irwin (So., North Richland Hills, Tex.) scored just two minutes into overtime to seal the 2-1 victory for the Pack.
Things weren't all roses from the start though. The Falcons started off fairly well getting quality looks at the net with a series of through balls and crosses. They finally broke through to take an early 1-0 lead with a goal by Hannah Dozier.
Dozier was able to break to the far side of the net and received a cross from Kaylen Gerkey that she finished to the far side post.
Facing adversity and being down early the Pack responded well regaining possession and composure to grab a handle of the game. They sent a total of 27 shots at goalkeeper Victoria Ramirez.
The second half was all Thunderwolves though and they finally broke through with a goal in the 53' by Gabby Gonzales (Sr., Centennial, Colo.). Gonzales sent a rocket of a shot 25 yards out that fooled Ramirez and set the Pack up with the equalizer.
To go along with the offense, the defense remained stout only allowing the Falcons one lone shot in the second half. The back line constantly stopped any attack and kept the pressure off the goalkeeper.
Although the Pack dominated on the offensive side of the ball they weren't able to win it in regulation.
The Pack made quick work of the Falcons in overtime scoring in the 92'. Gonzales again eluded defenders near the box and found an open Irwin who sent a nice shot to the upper corner beating the keeper.
The team finished up it's four game homestand Sunday and will be on the road Friday when they play at Fort Lewis. The game has a 3:30 p.m. scheduled start time. The team will then play an exhibition against Wyoming to cap off the weekend.
