PUEBLO, Colo. (September 11, 2015) – After putting the pressure on for most of the second half, the Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team was rewarded with a set-piece goal in the 76th minute to defeat visiting Texas Woman's University 1-0 Friday.
The ThunderWolves (2-0-0) didn't put a shot on frame in the first half, but peppered Texas Woman's goalkeeper in the second with six shots on goal. One of those finally found the back of the next when freshman Kylee Sakaguchi's (Apple Valley, Calif.) corner kick found the head of sophomore Jessica Westhoff (Centennial, Colo.) in a group of fellow Pack players and defenders. Westhoff hit the ball clean and past a reaching keeper for her first collegiate goal.
Junior Alison Darr (Placerville, Calif.) totaled seven saves, five in the first period, to improve to 2-0-0 on the season.
The combo of senior Amanda Jorgensen (Wailuku, Hawai'i) and sophomore Danelle Dondelinger (Louisville, Colo.) wreaked havoc up top, especially in the second half, and totaled five shots, three on goal.
The Pack defense kept a clean sheet for the season after the shutout of Western Oregon University Sept. 6.
Next, the ThunderWolves host No. 17 St. Edwards University Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
