PUEBLO, Colo. (October 9, 2016) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team earned its fifth win in a row after defeating MSU Denver 1-0 Sunday at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.
The five-game win streak is the longest for the Pack since 2007 as they move to 6-1 at home.
Rianna Lockhart (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) scored her second goal of the season in the final minute of the first half in leading the Pack.
Playing active from the start, the ThunderWolves used a balanced attack on both sides of the ball in shutting down MSU Denver.
A scramble in front of the Roadrunners' net made way for Lockhart to hit a squibble ball past the goalkeeper.
Most of the first half saw the Pack with possession as they managed eight shots to the Roadrunners three in the half.
At halftime CSU-Pueblo held a 3-2 corner kick advantage.
In the second period CSU-Pueblo's smothering defense did not allow the Roadrunners to gain much traction in attacking the net.
MSUD mustered four shots in the half and earned four second-half corner kicks.
Pack senior Laikyn Koss (Riverside, Calif.) led both teams with four shots.
ThunderWolves goalkeeper Rylie Martin (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) notched her second win of the year at the net. She made three saves on seven Roadrunner shots.
CSU-Pueblo (8-3, 5-2 RMAC) continues at home next week as they welcome New Mexico Highlands to the pitch Sunday, Oct. 16. Kickoff against the Cowgirls is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. following the men's game at the Art & Lorraine Gonzales Soccer Stadium.
