GOLDEN, Colo. (November 10, 2016) – The No. 23 Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team played in its first NCAA Tournament match Thursday, falling 1-0 against Dallas Baptist in the first round of the South Central Regional played at Stermole Stadium in Golden, Colo.
In the first half the Pack played aggressively from the start as they managed three shots in the first ten minutes of play. The ThunderWolves kept the pressure on Dallas Baptist for much of the first period, earning twelve shots in the half to the Patriots' six.
Laikyn Koss (Sr., Riverside, Calif.) paced the ThunderWolves in the first forty-five minutes, firing three shots with two on goal in the period.
CSU-Pueblo's active offense gathered four corner kick attempts to DBU's zero.
With 1:06 showing on the game clock in the first half, DBU was awarded a penalty kick following a hand ball inside the 18-yard box.
The Patriots' scored on the initial attempt but a violation by DBU allowed for another PK attempt which hit off the left post, keeping the game knotted at 0-0.
The second half CSU-Pueblo kept its composure in attacking the Patriots half of the field.
CSUP outshot Dallas Baptist 8-2 in the period led by Koss and her three additional shot attempts.
Over the final fifteen minutes both teams attacked the net with several shot attempts.
Dallas Baptist broke the scoreless affair with 1:13 showing on the game clock after a breakaway down the right side allowed for the late game goal.
The ThunderWolves finished the game outshooting the Patriots 24-9 and 7-0 in corner kick attempts.
Pack goalkeeper Alison Darr (Sr., Placerville, Calif.) made four saves on nine DBU shots.
CSU-Pueblo ends its season with a 14-5-1 record.
