DENTON, Tex. (September 10, 2017) – The Colorado State University-Pueblo women's soccer team finished a two-game Texas swing Sunday falling 1-0 on an own goal scored at Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas.
The ThunderWolves began the game attacking the net right away as Mackenzie Bean (Jr., Bothell, Wash.) fired the games' first shot fifty-four seconds into the game.
On a warm and humid day at the pitch, the Pack kept TWU on its heels for much of the half, gathering possession deep into Pioneer territory and creating several chances at the net.
CSU-Pueblo made four shots in the first period led by Bean's two attempts.
Texas Woman's first shot came in the 16th minute.
At halftime CSU-Pueblo held a 4-2 shot advantage and trailed 2-0 on corner kicks.
The second half started like the first with the Pack gaining control of the ball on the Pioneers side of the field. The ThunderWolves made five shots at the net in the first twenty minutes including one shot hitting off the post by Danelle Dondelinger (Sr., Louisville, Colo.).
The home team took a 1-0 lead in the 70th minute on a own goal scored off the Pack defense.
A flurry of substitutions for the Pack over the final twenty minutes resulted in minimal change.
Pack goalkeeper Rylie Martin (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.) was tabbed with the loss, making one save on nine shots by TWU.
CSU-Pueblo (1-2) returns home and welcomes defending D-II National Champion Western Washington to town Wednesday and wrap nonconference play. Kickoff against the Vikings is slated for 12 PM at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
