PUEBLO, Colo. (December 10, 2016) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo swimming& diving team celebrated senior day Saturday in a losing effort against Colorado College at the Same Jones Aquatic Center. CSU-Pueblo swimmers took first in five of the 15 events as the Tigers came away with a 169-112 win.
Pack senior Malin Wallmon (Stockholm, Sweden) shined in her final collegiate meet. Wallmon earned two of the Pack's four individual wins. The Swedish swimmer took first in the 50 breaststroke in a time of 32. 97.
Wallmon returned to win her final collegiate race the 100 breaststroke. Her time (1:11.87) beat the field by over three seconds.
In her first race of the day, Wallmon swam the second leg of the Pack's 200 yard medley relay team that got the Pack the first victory of the day. Fellow senior Clarissa Gardella (Bakersfield, Calif.) swam the anchor leg of the victorious 200 medley relay that finished in a time of 1:55.56. Jade Irick (So., Idaho Falls, Idaho) and Arianna Rohde (So., Fairbanks, Alaska) joined the seniors Gardella and Wallmon atop the medal stand.
Wallmon totaled 20 individual points for the Pack. She also finished fourth in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:08.25.
Gardella's best individual finish on her senior day was a fourth place finish in the 50 yard breaststroke (36.24). She also took fifth in the 50 yard freestyle (27.54). Gardella leaves as the school's record holder in the 50 free (25.21).
Rohde claimed her fifth first place finish of the season in the 100 backstroke. Rohde's time of 1:01.44 topped the field by over a second. The sophomore swam her way to a pair of second place finishes. She took second in the 200 individual medley in a time of 2:21.83. Rohde was also the runner up in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:01.29.
Irick touched the wall in first place in the 50 yard backstroke in a time of 28.73. This gave Irick her first victory of the 2016-17 season as she beat the field by .43 seconds. Irick also took second in the 100 back (1:02.55
Freshman Phoebe Pontious (Caledonia, Mich.) placed second in both the 50 butterfly (27.34) and 100 free (55.54). Pontious took third in the 50 free (25.52). Her 50 free time ranks as the fifth fastest in school history.
On the boards Stefany Busch (So., Carlsbad, Calif.) led the way for the Pack with a pair of third place finishes on both the one meter and three boards. Busch scored 210:55 on the three meter and 227.99 on the one meter board.
With a 1-5 record in dual meets, the Pack will enjoy a holiday break. The ThunderWolves will return to action in Jan. 7, 2017 when they travel to the Austin College Invite.
