PUEBLO, Colo. (March 6, 2017) – On Tuesday March 7, Stefany Busch will make Colorado State University-Pueblo Swimming & Diving history. When she steps on the diving board at the NCAA Pre-Nationals meet in Birmingham, Ala., Busch will become the first Pack student-athlete to compete for a National Championship.
Busch (So., Carlsbad, Calif.) qualified for the national meet with the top score in the one meter time trials at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Championships. At the RMAC Championships, Busch posted a score of 417.20 to win the one-meter 11 dive event. She beat the automatic qualifying score of 390 to become the first athlete from CSU-Pueblo Swimming and Diving to qualify for the national meet.
With her win in the time trials, Busch has taken first place five times in 2016-17. Four of her wins have come at the one meter height.
Busch had fallen just short of the 390 automatic qualifying score in a meet at Western State Colorado University. She put up a score of 385.85 to take second place, missing the qualifying mark by 4.15 points.
On the third day of the RMAC Championships, Busch took advantage of her last chance to qualify for the national meet. Not only did she beat the score of the 390 by 27 points, she beat the rest of the field by eight points.
The Pack's diver will join 44 other divers to try and win the NCAA National Championship. The top 22 divers based on scores will advance to National Meet Thursday
Busch will compete in the NCAA Preliminary meet Tuesday at 10 a.m. Although she qualified with 11 dives, Busch will only dive six times at the NCAA National Meet.
