Forsyth advances in consolation bracket

The CSU-Pueblo women’s tennis team continued to struggle at the North Central ITA tournament in Kearney, Neb. on Saturday, but Morgan Forsyth (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) looks like a player to monitor in the future.  She won a pair of singles matches to advance to the consolation semi-finals.

The ThunderWolves’ lone remaining player in the main singles draw, Julie Wainwright (Sr., Aurora, Colo.), was knocked out early this morning by Mary Outhwaite of the University of Nebraska-Kearney.  The majority of the Pack’s singles lineup didn’t fare any better in the consolation draw, but Forsyth managed to make the most of her time in the secondary bracket by winning both of her matches on Saturday.

The consolation draw is home to a shortened version of tennis known as the pro-set.  It uses the same abbreviated set system that doubles does, and it accelerates the draw’s progress.

Even so, Forsyth may still play twice tomorrow if she wins her consolation semi-final match against Metro State player and Pueblo-native Alexis Alvarez.

Unfortunately, the Pack’s doubles play was not much better today than it was on Friday, and the two remaining women’s doubles teams crashed out of the consolation draw, leaving Forsyth as the lone remaining ThunderWolf representative.
