Forsyth threatening for regional singles title

Forsyth trying to become first ThunderWolf to take region since 2001.

KEARNEY, Neb. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 18, 2010) - Pack junior Morgan Forsyth (Jr., Parker, Colo.) is making a bid to become just the second regional champion in program history, playing her way to the regional semifinals Saturday.

Forsyth had two tough matches Saturday, the first of which nearly did her in.

Against Leah Dahl, an up-and-comer from Winona State (Minn.), Forsyth lost the first set 6-4, but persevered, claiming the second set 6-4 and dominating the tie break, clinching the match 10-3.

Her quarterfinal match was certainly easier, though provided tough competition in defeating Augustana's Hannah Gebauer 6-1, 6-2.

Sunday, Forsyth will face Amy Andersen, a Colorado Christian product, in a de-facto RMAC singles championship. Andersen, who ended the tournament for the Pack's number-two singles player, Andrea Ortiz (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) on Friday, is the only other RMAC entrant, besides Forsyth, remaining.

Based on the seeding, Forsyth is considered the favorite to claim the regional title. Seeded third in the field coming into the tournament, she advanced to the regional championship match in 2009 and saw her foil last season in Upper Iowa's Anastasia Dabiza, the 2009 regional champ, fall early on.

The event will conclude Sunday.

Que Sera, Sera: Forsyth, Ortiz fall short in doubles bracket

Forsyth and Ortiz saw their doubles championship hopes fade Saturday, as well, losing to the sister combo of Kelleen and Kaitlan Sera from RMAC foe, Mesa State, in a tight 8-5 match.

Sera/Sera eventually lost their semifinal match.
