Pack posts sweep of Saturday's matches

ThunderWolves earn first back-to-back wins against D-II teams since 2007.

LAKEWOOD, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Sept. 25, 2010) - The Brad Gerler era is off and running, if the play of the CSU-Pueblo women's tennis team Saturday is any indication.

The Pack earned back-to-back wins in decisive fashion for their new coach, downing a much improved Colorado Christian squad 5-4 then roaring to a 6-3 win over Fort Hays State.

It marked the first time since 2007 that the ThunderWolves were able to post consecutive wins against Division II teams.  Already at 2-1 on the young season, CSU-Pueblo is halfway toward its 2009-10 win total of four.

The wins were turned in thanks to solid play at the top of the Pack's singles lineup.  The top four singles players were unfettered against Fort Hays, each turning in wins, and the two- and three-singles players, Andrea Ortiz (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) and Kellie Manes (So., Pueblo, Colo.) claimed wins against Colorado Christian.  Ortiz and Manes were a perfect 2-0 on the day, and a combined 3-1 as each were 1-1 in doubles matches.

The Pack will take a week off before concluding its fall schedule with a trip to Grand Junction Oct. 9 to face Mesa State and Dixie State (Utah).
