Tennis programs end season with loss at the RMAC Tournament


DENVER (April 22, 2018) - The Colorado State University-Pueblo tennis programs closed the 2017-18 season Sunday at the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament in Denver. The ThunderWolves women lost 5-3 to Colorado Mesa University in their semifinal match, while the men suffered a 5-1 setback to the Mavericks.

The Pack women earned one win at doubles, as the No. 2 pairing of Nia Matthews (Jr., Houston, Texas) and Kali Hamilton (Fr., Grapevine, Texas) posted an 8-5 victory. In singles play, Matthews was victorious again with a 6-4, 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot. Senior Acacia Dettman (Perris, Calif.) ended her collegiate career with a win, as she posted a 6-0, 2-6, 7-6 (8-6) result at No. 3 singles to give CSU-Pueblo its third and final point of the season. The women's team ended 2017-18 with a 4-21 record.

The men's team could only muster one team point before CMU clinched the match and advanced to the tournament final. The lone win came from Ogulcan Deniz (Jr., Istanbul, Turkey) by the score of 6-2, 6-4 at No. 2 singles. The ThunderWolves finished the season 11-15 and were ranked nationally in the top 50 for most of the spring season.
