Pack strong against D-I competition
At the Division-I rich Air Force Academy All-Comers meet, CSU-Pueblo turned in 10 top ten finishes, led by a strong showing in sprint events by Blair Gilkes (So., Aurora, Colo.).
Gilkes finished high in both the 60- and 200-meter dash events, placing third and second, respectively. Gilkes put up a 26.21 in the 200, a personal best, and a 7.78 in the 60, also a personal best.
The Pack also got a high finish in the long jump from Shannon Elliott (Fr., El Paso, Tex.), who finished third with a leap of 5.32m, 10 inches better than the long jump she turned in at the Colorado School of Mines Alumni Extravaganza in December. Danita Wyatt (So., Aurora, Colo.) also shattered her personal best of 4.54m in the long jump, turning in a 4.94m jump for a sixth place finish.
"The meet went well and we faced some tough Division I competition," Pack coach Chad Perry said. "Our break [from their previous competition in December] was much needed but it's time to get ready for conference competition and make up ground in several events. We need to get better in the next couple weeks to reach our goal of finishing high at conference."
CSU-Pueblo's next event will be in a week when they travel to Golden for the Joe Davies Invitational at Colorado School of Mines.
