Pack, Wyatt dominates jumps at CSU-Pueblo Open
PUEBLO, Colo. - Led by wins in the triple jump and long jump by Danita Wyatt (So., Aurora, Colo.), CSU-Pueblo had plenty of success of at the first outdoor track meet of the season, the CSU-Pueblo Open, hosted at the Neta and Eddie DeRose ThunderBowl.
Wyatt paced the field in both jumping events, leaping 17-feet, 5-inches in the long jump and 37-feet, 5-inches meters in the triple jump. It marked the first time she had won two events in the same meet in her career.
The Pack also got impressive performances from Blair Gilkes (So., Aurora, Colo.), who was third in the 100-meter (12.42 seconds) and a third place finish by Maya Richards (So., Denver, Colo.) in the 400-meter (60.05 seconds).
The ThunderWolves assumed hosting duties of the event late this week when track conditions at Colorado School of Mines, the site of this weekend's originally scheduled meet, the Colorado Mines Open, were compromised due to winter storms. The meet was the first outdoor meet of the season and included entrants from six RMAC schools (CSU-Pueblo, Mesa State, Metro State, UC-Colorado Springs, Chadron State, and Colorado Mines) as well as Division-I entrants Colorado, Colorado State, Northern Colorado and Wyoming.
CSU-Pueblo will continue its outdoor track season next weekend at the University of Northern Colorado at the Tom Benich Open.
