Sprinters excel at CSU-Pueblo Invitational
PUEBLO - CSU-Pueblo was unrivaled in the sprint events at the CSU-Pueblo Invitational Saturday, claiming event wins in the 4x100 and the 100-meter, finishing fifth overall in team scoring.
Personal bests were commonplace for the Pack Saturday, and none was more impressive than the Pack's performance in the 4x100-meter relay. The ThunderWolves claimed first by a full second, finishing less than a second behind a provisional qualifying standard.
Even closer to a provisional qualifier was Blair Gilkes (So., Aurora, Colo.) in the 100-meter dash. Gilkes blew her competition away with her 12.19 mark, 0.2 seconds better than second place. Her mark was a scant 0.07 seconds shy of a provisional mark.
Also recording impressive performances were a personal-best third place finish in the 400-meter hurdles by Vanessa Emerson (Fr., Aurora, Colo.) with a 1:05.92 mark, and a second-place finish in the 400-meter dash by Maya Richards (So., Denver, Colo.) with a 59.70 finish. Jazmin Evans (RFr., Parker, Colo.) also was strong in the 200-meter, finishing fifth with a 25.95 mark.
CSU-Pueblo will look to build upon their strong performance at the CSU-Pueblo Invitational when it travels to the Jack Christiansen Invitational at Colorado State University in Fort Collins.
