Pack signs top high school thrower
ThunderWolves add arguably best thrower in Pueblo history and one of the best in the state to squad.
PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Apr. 26, 2011) - CSU-Pueblo added a top thrower to its squad for 2011-12, signing Pueblo Centennial High School standout Krystel Martinez to a National Letter of Intent.
Martinez, a Pueblo city school record holder in the discus, tops out at 148-feet, 5-inches in the discus and 38-feet, 3/4 inches thus far in her high school career. Her personal best in the discus would easily qualify provisionally for nationals this season in NCAA Division II.
At last season's Colorado High School state championships, she finished third in the discus and seventh in the shot put. This year, she is ranked tops in the state in the discus.
Martinez will join a team that already boasts a school-record holder in thrower Holli Salazar (So., Hayden, Colo.), who will be a junior next season.
