Pack falls back to earth as RMAC Championships close

Pack gets points only from shot put and triple jump on final day.

CHADRON, Neb. (GoThunderWolves.com - Feb. 25, 2012) - Only two ThunderWolves scored points on the second and final day of the RMAC Indoor Track Championships as the T-Wolves finished 8th as a team.

Danita Wyatt (Sr., Aurora, Colo.) scored in her third event of the meet by finishing fifth in the triple jump, turning in a provisionally-qualifying jump of 37 feet, 9-1/4 inches.  Friday, she would finish fourth in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 6-1/4 inches as well as second in the indoor pentathlon with a nationally-qualifying 3,344 points.  In all, she would qualify provisionally for nationals twice during the meet.

Holli Salazar (Jr., Hayden, Colo.) would be the other ThunderWolf to score Saturday, finishing 6th in the shot put.  Friday, she turned in a 6th place finish in the weight throw, as well.

The Pack also got school-record-breaking efforts from the distance medley relay team of Hayley Lewis (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), Marki Cook (Jr., Meeker, Colo.), Vanessa Emerson (Sr., Aurora, Colo.) and Nicole Reveles (Fr., Gilbert, Ariz.), with a time of 13:21.61, but didn't score any points.

Lacy Harris (Fr., Cimarron, N.M.) was also strong in the pole vault, finishing 10th with a indoor record-breaking 10-foot, 4-inch vault.

As a team, CSU-Pueblo netted 24 points, which left them near the bottom of the meet standings.  The Pack outscored Metro State (nine points) and Colorado Mesa (one point).

CSU-Pueblo will close the indoor track portion of its schedule on March 9-10 at the NCAA Division II National Indoor Championships in Mankato, Minn.  Wyatt has already qualified automatically in the long jump, while she has provisional quals in the triple jump and pentathlon.  Salazar has previously qualified provisionally in the weight throw.  All provisional qualifiers will be awaiting word if they will make the cut for a national championships bid.
