Wyatt clears provisional qual in heptathlon
Pack senior busts school record.
AZUSA, Calif. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 19, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo heptathlete Danita Wyatt (Sr., Aurora, Colo.) turned in a school record and provisionally-qualifying mark in the heptathlon at the California Invite at Azusa Pacific University.
Wyatt scored 4,661 points in the heptathlon, even rebounding from a down performance in the hurdles to finish 14th in the 37-member field at the prestigious Division I-rich event.
She was strong in four events, including the shot put, where she turned in a personal best with a fifth-place finish and a 37-foot, 7-1/4 inch toss. She also finished 7th in the long jump with a 5.59-meter leap and turned in a 200-meter dash of 25.90, which netted her the most points of any individual event at 806.
Her 14th place finish overall, especially alongside some of the top Division I heptathletes in the country, was especially impressive.
Additionally, her mark of 4,661 points is now the 14th-best heptathlon mark turned in among all NCAA Division II athletes this season, and could put her in position to qualify for nationals in the event.
Wyatt will continue to compete in California this weekend, trying her hand in her top event, the triple jump, at the Mt. Sac Relays in Walnut, Calif.
