ThunderWolves picked to finish 9th in RMAC

CSU-Pueblo not expected to repeat trip to playoffs in 2012.

Releated: 2012 RMAC Preseason Release (Aug. 14, 2012)

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. ( - Aug. 14, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo's volleyball team was picked to miss the playoffs in 2012 according to the RMAC Preseason Volleyball Coaches' Poll released Tuesday.

CSU-Pueblo, which went 15-13 in 2011 and made its first trip back to the RMAC Playoffs since 2006, was picked to finish ninth in the RMAC standings by the conference's coaches in 2012 - one spot .  Last season, it finished tied for seventh in the overall season standings.

The ThunderWolves' expectation to miss the playoffs is more a matter of the RMAC's new playoff qualification rules as opposed to CSU-Pueblo's expectations for performance.  Last year, each of the top four teams from the Eastern and Western divisions qualified for the playoffs while this season, the top eight finishing teams, regardless of their divisional affiliation, will qualify for the playoffs.  Under this season's rules, CSU-Pueblo may not have qualified for the playoffs in 2011.

The Preseason All-RMAC teams were released Tuesday, as well, with no ThunderWolves making the cut on the seven-member team.  Colorado School of Mines' Jackie Stabell was named Preseason Player of the Year.

CSU-Pueblo will kick off its season at the Rattler/Hilltopper Classic in San Antonio, Texas and Austin, Texas on Aug. 31.
