LARAMIE, Wyo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 1, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo tested its mettle against an upper level Division I opponent Monday, losing in three sets to the University of Wyoming.
The ThunderWolves fell to the Cowgirls in just one hour and 12 minutes, losing 25-11, 25-14, 25-12. Overall, the ThunderWolves hit just -.065, the first time it hit in the negatives since Jen Gomez has been the head coach of the squad, as Wyoming showed the gap between Division I and Division II programs.
Outside hitter Morgan Wilkening (Fr., Fleming, Colo.) held her own admirably against the tough competition, recording a team-high ten kills, but she and the rest of the Pack was no match for Wyoming's front row.
The Cowgirls executed a remarkable 19 blocks while hitting .343 and succeeded in shutting down the Pack's strength, its middle blockers. Brianna Bryant (Jr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) and Alex Winkler (Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) combined to get just five kills to go along with seven errors on 21 tries.
CSU-Pueblo will try to flush this game as it gets back into conference play this week, traveling to Colorado School of Mines Thursday and staying on the road for a Saturday showdown against Colorado Christian.
