PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 11, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo made #20 Metro State sweat Thursday night, nearly pushing to Roadrunners to five but falling short, losing in four sets, 23-25, 25-22, 25-20, 27-25.
The ThunderWolves played Metro State close all night long, playing back-and-forth volleyball for the bulk of the night. CSU-Pueblo drew first blood, coming back from a modest 14-11 deficit to take over the set, tying things up at 21-21 before sprinting to the finish line and securing a 25-23 win. The ThunderWolves benefitted from kills down the stretch by Angela McAdams (Sr., Blinn, Texas) and Skylar Conner (Fr., Rio Rancho, N.M.) as well as a set-ending block from Brianna Bryant (Edmond, Okla.) and Jordan Bruere (Rio Rancho, N.M.).
The rest of the match, however, was frustrating as the ThunderWolves hung with the Roadrunners quite well, but couldn't seem to put them away when needed.
In the second set, the score was tied 18-18, but three consecutive errors helped elevate Metro State to a 22-18 lead, leaving the Pack scraping to make up ground and eventually losing 25-22.
In the third set, the Pack was beginning to rally, trying to turn a 20-11 deficit around. Despite scoring seven of the next nine points, the deficit was simply too much to make up as the Roadrunners won 25-20.
The fourth and final set for the Pack was the most frustrating, as CSU-Pueblo built a 22-19 lead down the stretch in a back-and-forth set, but two Pack errors helped set off a four-point run for Metro State as they surged ahead 23-22 and eventually held on for the match-clinching win 27-25.
CSU-Pueblo drops to 11-9 overall and 2-7 in RMAC play with the loss. The home stand gets no easier, as it will entertain 18th-ranked Regis Friday night.
