PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 12, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo couldn't keep up with an 18th-ranked Regis squad Friday, losing in three sets to the Rangers, 25-17, 25-17, 25-20.
The ThunderWolves faded down the stretch in each of the three sets despite playing the Rangers closely up until the midway point of each set.
In the first set, the ThunderWolves were hanging tough, holding a 13-11 lead before Regis nine-point run that effectively delivered the first set to Regis.
The second set was again tight as it was knotted up at 10-10 before Regis got going, rattling off seven straight points to go up 17-10 en route to a 25-17 win.
In the third set, Regis controlled things from the outset, but the ThunderWolves were the ones nearly making a late surge, crawling back into things to cut the lead to 22-20 after converting five straight points. But after the ensuing Regis time out, the Rangers collected themselves to turn in three straight kills and clinch the match with a 25-20 set.
The loss drops CSU-Pueblo to 11-10 overall and 2-9 in conference play. The ThunderWolves have one last shot a win this weekend when it hosts UC-Colorado Springs Saturday in a Steel and Silver Series battle.
