CHADRON, Neb. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 18, 2012) - CSU-Pueblo broke its seven-match losing streak Thursday with a five-set win over Chadron State, winning 25-17, 13-25, 19-25, 25-23, 15-11.
The Pack's slump-busting win was nearly not a win at all as Chadron State rebounded from losing the first set 25-17 to thump the Pack 25-13 in the second set. It piled on by controlling the third set and looking to close the deal in set four.
The Eagles jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the fourth set, seemingly setting the stage for a four-set win over the Pack, but the ThunderWolves were able to rally. After climbing back within shooting distance, trailing 7-5, CSU-Pueblo rattled off seven straight points, using two blocks and two kills by Brianna Bryant (Jr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) to take a 12-7 lead.
The Pack would hold on to the lead, staying ahead at the 20-17 mark, but Chadron would score six of the next seven points to take a 23-21 lead.
At that point, Chadron imploded, committing three unforced errors in the next four points as CSU-Pueblo converted to win 25-23 and force a fifth set.
With the momentum, the ThunderWolves stayed neck-and-neck with the Eagles until the 11-11 mark of the fifth set. Then, the Pack went for the kill, getting four straight points, including a kill and a match-clinching ace from Angela McAdams (Sr., Blinn, Texas) to secure the win.
CSU-Pueblo now improves to 12-11 overall and 3-9 in RMAC play, halting their losing streak at seven. The Pack will hope to make it two in a row Saturday when it travels to Black Hills State to take on the Yellow Jackets.
