GUNNISON, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Nov. 2, 2012) - It was a night of highs and lows for the Pack, as CSU-Pueblo first swept through Western State in three quick sets Friday night, 25-19, 25-22, 25-9, but later learned that because of a Colorado Mesa win, the ThunderWolves will not qualify for the playoffs this season.
In the match, the Pack simply ran roughshod over Western, outhitting the Mountaineers .202 to -.008, relying a remarkable 12 blocks in the three-set match.
Brianna Bryant (Jr., Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.) was unstoppable for the Pack, hitting .636 and delivering seven kills and five blocks. The Pack was lead in the kills column by Marissa Calvillo (Fr., Rio Rancho, N.M.), who had 11 kills.
The ThunderWolves entered Friday's match with very slim playoff hopes, needing to win its final three matches while Colorado Mesa lost its final three, and then hope to outlast the Mavericks on tiebreakers. The lost bid for playoffs comes in a season where an above-.500 finish to the season is possible, at is 14-13 overall but just 5-11 in conference play.
CSU-Pueblo will continue its weekend trip Saturday on the road against a nationally-ranked Adams State squad.
