PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - Oct. 10, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo always seemed one step behind Thursday night, but held tough against 18th-ranked Colorado School of Mines, losing 25-21, 25-22, 25-21.
The ThunderWolves faced an uphill battle from the outset, confronting the Orediggers without starting libero Alex Sansavera (So., San Antonio, Texas), who suffered an injury earlier in the week, but true freshman Katie Burnett (Fr., Austin, Texas) proved to be a suitable replacement, recording a game-high 11 digs in the match.
But the Pack's Achilles' heel was undoubtedly unforced errors. The ThunderWolves committed 20 attack errors, eight service errors, four setting errors and eight reception errors, and in a match where the teams were largely matching each other tit-for-tat on the attack and the block, the missteps made a close match break for the Orediggers.
The Pack did get a big game out of Morgan Wilkening (So., Fleming, Colo.), who hit .359 by going for eight kills to just one error. But inconsistency hurt the rest of the Pack.
With the loss, CSU-Pueblo drops to 7-9 overall and 4-3 in conference play. It will look to salvage one win from the weekend when it hosts Colorado Christian Friday night.
