Pack's long trip to New Mexico ends in defeat

SILVER CITY, N.M. ( - Nov. 1, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo struggled after the long bus drive to Silver City, N.M. Friday, falling in three sets to Western New Mexico 25-22, 25-19, 25-19.

The ThunderWolves saw a solid start turn quickly against them, and the ensuing tide of despair never quite left the ThunderWolves.

CSU-Pueblo got up by as much as five points, 11-6, and clung to the lead late, leading 21-20 before Western New Mexico took over.

Three big kills by the Mustangs' leading attacker, Angelina Pulu, lifted Western New Mexico en route to a 25-22 win, and the comeback was enough to take the wind out of the Pack's sails for the rest of the match.

The ThunderWolves couldn't take another lead in any other set for the rest of the match as the Pack attack went dry and balls continually fell in for the Mustangs.  At the end of the day, CSU-Pueblo hit only hit .119 as a team while the Mustangs hit .273.

The ThunderWovles were led by Marissa Calvillo (So., Rio Rancho, N.M.), who turned in 12 kills and hit .304, and Morgan Wilkening (So., Fleming, Colo.), who followed with 10 kills.  But the rest of the ThunderWolves only combined to 11 kills with 12 attack errors.

CSU-Pueblo will travel to Colorado Springs for a non-conference matchup with Colorado College Tuesday before returning home to face Adams State and Western State next weekend.
