TOWSON, Md. (GoThunderWolves.com - Dec. 11, 2013) - CSU-Pueblo senior setter Kacy Griffin (Sr., San Antonio, Texas) has been named a first-team Academic All-American by Capital One and the College Sports Information Directors of American, CoSIDA announced Wednesday.
Griffin, the 2013 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Academic Player of the Year, carried a perfect 4.0 grade-point-average into her senior season on the volleyball team. She will graduate this fall with a Bachelor's Degree in business management. She was the only first-team Academic All-American to boast a 4.0 grade-point-average.
In becoming an Academic All-American, she is the first volleyball student-athlete since 1983 (Kathy Meehan) to receive Academic All-American honors. She is only the third ThunderWolf to receive national honors, joining Meehan and 1997 All-American, Angie Wintz.
Griffin is the second ThunderWolf student-athlete this season to earn Academic All-American honors, joining football student-athlete, Brandon Kliesen. She is the first CSU-Pueblo female student-athlete since 2001 to be named an Academic All-American (Niki Toussaint - Softball).
