ThunderWolves host Western State in Pink Out contest

PUEBLO, Colo. (October 6, 2014) – In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Colorado State University-Pueblo volleyball team will hold a "Pink Out" match, Tuesday versus Western State Colorado University. Match time between the ThunderWolves and Mountaineers is set for 7 p.m. at Massari Arena. Donations will be accepted by members of the CSU-Pueblo Student Athlete Advisory Committee and will be presented to St. Mary Corwin Medical Center.

CSU-Pueblo News and Notes

  • The Pack split a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference contests last weekend, falling to Colorado Mesa University, 3-1, before bouncing back to defeat For Lewis College, 3-1, Saturday.

  • Against the Skyhawks, the ThunderWolves notched season highs in hitting percentage (.295), kills (65) and assists (57).

  • Four players, Mariangel Perez (So., Catia La Mar, Venezuela), Morgan Wilkening (Jr., Fleming, Colo.), Alex Sansavera (R-Jr., San Antonio, Texas) and Jordan Bruere (Jr., Rio Rancho, N.M.), tallied double-doubles for the Pack versus For Lewis.

  • The Pack hold a 4-4 league record and a 10-7 mark overall. The ThunderWolves are currently in a tie for seventh in the RMAC standings with Colorado Christian University and Black Hills State University.

  • In contests played at Massari Arena, CSU-Pueblo is 6-4. The Pack have two sweeps, three four-set wins and one five-set victory at home this season.  

  • The ThunderWolves have out-blocked their opponents in seven of eight RMAC matches.

  • The Pack are 9-2 this season when out-hitting their opponent.

  • CSU-Pueblo has not lost to Western State under head coach Jen Gomez, winning six consecutive contests.

  • ThunderWolves statistical leaders:

    • Kills: 253 - Mariangel Perez

    • Assists: 347 – Alex Sansavera

    • Digs: 273 – Katie Burnett (So., Austin, Texas)

A look at Western State

  • The Mountaineers sit in 14th place in the RMAC standings with a 0-8 league record and a 0-12 overall mark.

  • Western State is fell in five sets to Fort Lewis, Friday, before getting swept by Colorado Mesa, Saturday.

  • The Mountaineers have won just eight sets this season.

  • The statistical leaders for Western State are: Jordan Eatwell (98 kills), Tepora Su'a (336 assists), Morgan Stansberry (218 digs) and Hailey Rehage (18 blocks).

Looking Ahead
The ThunderWolves will play their next seven matches on the road, beginning Saturday at Adams State University. Match time between the Pack and the Grizzlies is scheduled for 7 p.m.
