COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (Nov. 3, 2014) – For the first time in her career, Colorado State University-Pueblo volleyball sophomore Alex Winkler (Colorado Springs, Colo.) was tabbed the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, Monday by the conference office.
Winkler's performance comes off the heels of a career-high 10 block effort in the ThunderWolves five-set victory against Adams State University Friday night at Massari Arena. Last Tuesday, the sophomore tallied four blocks in a 3-1 win versus Western State University. Winkler finished the week with 14 blocks, while adding 18 kills on a .448 hitting percentage.
Winkler's honor is the first RMAC weekly award for the ThunderWolves since Angela McAdams garnered the offensive player of the week plaudit Sept. 10, 2012. The last time a Pack player won the defensive player of the week award was Sept. 3, 2012 when McAdams earned the honor.
On the brink of clinching a berth in the RMAC tournament, the Pack will close out the 2014 regular season with a pair of home matches this weekend. CSU-Pueblo will host New Mexico Highlands University, Friday, before welcoming Western New Mexico University to Massari Arena, Saturday. Both contests are slated to begin at 7 p.m.
