PUEBLO, Colo. (November 5, 2015) – Two weeks after earning a spot on the RMAC's First Team All-Academic, Mikala Morris (So., Tempe, Ariz.) added another award to her trophy case as she received COSIDA Academic All-District First Team honors. Morris, a right side/outside hitter for the Colorado State University-Pueblo volleyball team, earns this honor for the first time in her career.
Morris holds a 4.0 GPA, while pursuing three majors at CSU-Pueblo. She majors in mass communications, political science, and Spanish. Morris is currently pursuing a honors minor as well.
Not satisfied with her own accomplishments in the classroom, Morris helps others succeed in their studies. She tutors students for two campus agencies. Morris also contributes to the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Political Science Club.
All of these accomplishments would be a lot for any student, but Morris also continues to improve on the volleyball court. Morris matched her career high with nine kills Oct.30 against Adams State University. Morris' .471 hitting percentage in this match led the Pack to their first sweep of Adams in 15 years.
Morris has played in 20 matches this season for the Pack, recording a career high 57 kills and 37 blocks. The sophomore has collected five rejections in three different games this season.
Morris and the rest of the CSU-Pueblo volleyball team will try to keep their four-match home winning streak alive this weekend as they host University of Colorado Colorado Springs Friday and Metropolitan State University of Denver on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7:00p.m.
