New look Pack Volleyball team returns to the court Monday

PUEBLO, Colo. (August 12, 2016) – With a new coach behind the bench, Colorado State University-Pueblo Volleyball will start its fall training camp on Monday at Massari Arena. Players will report on Sunday and begin practicing Monday as the Pack eyes a third consecutive Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Tournament appearance.

Practice begins for the Pack on Monday Aug. 15 at 9 a.m. with two-a-days starting that day. All practices will be closed to the public with the exception of the blue/red scrimmage which will open to the public. The blue/red scrimmage will be held Aug.20 from 4:30-7 p.m.

Jill Muhe begins her first season as head coach of the ThunderWolves. She comes to the Pack from San Francisco State University where she led the Gators to a 41-43 record over the last three seasons.

Muhe graduated from University of California-Davis where she will be enshrined in the Hall of Fame this fall. She has six years of collegiate head coaching experience.

The Pack will return five starters from last year's squad including senior Mariangel Perez (Catia La Mar, Venezuela). Perez has earned First Team All-RMAC honors in each of the last two seasons. Perez ranked eighth in the RMAC with 3.22 kills per game.

She also contributed on the defensive side of the ball with 3.02 digs per set. Perez finished her 2015 campaign with 12 double-double efforts in 27 matches.

Starting Libero, Katie Burnett (Sr., Austin, Texas) also returns for her senior season. Burnett finished with 3.29 digs per set. Other returning starters include front line players Caitlin Broadwell (Jr., Lawrence, Kan.), Mikala Morris (R-Jr., Tempe, Ariz.), and Melissa Nichols (R-So., McKinney, Texas). Morgan Wilkening (R-Sr., Fleming, Colo.) will return after missing the 2015 season due to injury.

Four newcomers will join the Pack in 2016. Freshmen setters Kelsey Bell (Fr., Los Lunas, N.M.), Page Heller (Fr., Vancouver, Wash.) join the Pack after helping their teams reach their respective State Championship games. Junior transfer Misha McDowell (Jr., Gilbert, Ariz.) and freshman defensive specialist Bayley Ricottone (Pueblo, Colo.)round out the Pack's 2016-17 recruiting class.

CSU-Pueblo opens up play at the Texas Women's Tournament Sept. 2. The Pack will host its home opener at Massari Arena Wednesday Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. when they host Angelo State University.

The Massari Arena will host the ThunderWolves Classic the following three days (Sept. 8-10) as the Pack hosts Western State College, Texas A&M University Kingsville, Wayne State, and Adams State for a total of five home games from Sept. 7-10.

The Pack will officially open up RMAC play with a visit to Colorado Christian University Sept. 16.
