ThunderWolves aim for first home win vs. Mesa and Western

PUEBLO, Colo. (October 5, 2017) – Colorado State University- Pueblo Volleyball will take the court in a pair of home matches this weekend at Massari Arena. The ThunderWolves will welcome Colorado Mesa University to Southern Colorado Friday at 7 p.m., before wrapping up their four-match homestand Saturday at 3 p.m. vs. Western State Colorado University. 

Promotions: It is homecoming weekend. CSU-Pueblo volleyball alumni will be in attendance for this weekend's matches.

ThunderWolves at a Glance:

CSU-Pueblo will try to earn its first home win during their last two matches of this four-match homestand. The ThunderWolves will have to minimize their errors as they hit just .034 in their losses to University of Colorado Colorado Springs and Metro State University Denver last week.

Caitlin Broadwell (Sr., Lawrence, Kan.) has led CSU-Pueblo in kills in every match this season. Broadwell ranks fourth in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference with 3.82 kills per set. She remains among the top 50 attackers in D-II, ranking 48th in kills.

Misha McDowell (Sr., Gilbert, Ariz.) continues to be the Pack's best weapon at the service line. McDowell averages 0.31 aces per set, eighth most in the RMAC. Her 14 aces leads the team.

Scouting Colorado Mesa:

The Mavericks come into the weekend looking to bounce back from an upset loss to Fort Lewis College in five sets at home. They have played five of their six RMAC matches in Grand Junction, Colo. The Mavericks lead the conference in opponent hitting percentage, holding their foes to .137 clip. Colorado Mesa enters the weekend in sixth place in the RMAC standings. 

Record: 10-4 (4-2 RMAC)

All-time record vs. CSU-Pueblo: 56-17

Last Meeting: Oct. 7, 2016, the Pack lost 3-0 on the road. CSU-Pueblo last beat the Mavericks Sept.21, 2013 at Massari Arena.

                               Megan Gianinetti (0.47 service aces per set, leads RMAC)

                               Taylor Woods (4.89 digs per set, second in RMAC)

Scouting Western State:

The Mountaineers come into the weekend with an 0-6 conference record and stand 1-14 overall. Oddly, the only set they have won in conference play came against No. 10 Regis University. Western is the worst offensive team in the conference, hitting just .089 and averaging just 9.37 kills per set. They serve well with a conference-best 1.65 aces per set.

Record: 1-14 (0-6 RMAC) 

All-time record vs. CSU-Pueblo: 38-39

Last Meeting: Oct.8, 2016, the Pack won 3-2 in Gunnison, Colo. The ThunderWolves have beaten the Mountaineers in each of the last 13 meetings.
