Pack's season ends at Central Regionals
WAYNE, Neb. - CSU-Pueblo wrapped up the 2009 cross country season Saturday, finishing 21st out of 22 teams at the NCAA Division II Central Regionals in Wayne, Neb.
The ThunderWolves didn't net any national qualifiers, but saw Hayley Lewis (Fr., El Mirage, Ariz.) run the best, turning in a time of 26:30 (126th place) in the 6K run. Christina Lobato (Fr., Rocky Ford, Colo.) was the Pack's second-highest finisher, finishing two spots behind Lewis with a time of 26:47. Senior Aubrey Alley (Sr., Walsh, Colo.) ended her collegiate career with the Pack's third-best time.
The ThunderWolves largely ran as a pack the entire race before staggering at the end, coach Chad Perry said.
"I do think this is the best team we've had in the since the school restarted cross country," Perry said. "Aubree had a great end to her career and I'm proud of her performance as well as our freshmen."
Perry said the team is nowhere close to where they want to be, which is competing for a conference title year in and year out.
"I think we are three our four quality recruits away," Perry said. "We need to get faster and finish higher in our region and conference. Overall the season was good learning experience and we were more competative than last season. However, we have a lot of work to do."
