Two ThunderWolves PR at regionals, Pack finishes 19th
Garcia, Graham post career bests.
WAYNE, Neb. (GoThunderWolves.com - Nov. 20, 2010) - Though two ThunderWolves turned in personal best 6K times at the NCAA Division II Central Regionals in Wayne, Neb. Saturday, The Pack couldn't establish itself at the top of the leaderboard, finishing 19th out of 21 teams.
The Pack's top finisher was once again Hayley Lewis (So., Colorado Springs, Colo.), who was just 16 seconds off her collegiate-best pace of 24:10, and finished in 78th place out of nearly 140 runners.
Lewis' performance was light years ahead of where she was last season, where she ran two minutes slower at regionals on the same course.
"She finished her sophomore season well," Pack coach Chad Perry said. "She's on track to be really competitive."
No other ThunderWolves could break the 25-minute mark, but Marissa Garcia (RFr., Littleton, Colo.) beat her personal best mark by 15 seconds with a 25:43 finish. Kelisa Graham (Fr., Buena Vista, Colo.) also hit her personal best by over 12 seconds, finishing with a 28:01 run.
"Our top three ran well in bad conditions," Perry said. "As a team, we were five minutes faster than we were last year on this same course, and to shake off five minutes like that is pretty good."
The ThunderWolves, however, did not qualify for nationals at this meet, thus ending their 2010 season.
