Laguera, Williams guide ThunderWolves to fifth at the Conference Crossover


ROMEOVILLE, Ill. (Oct. 6, 2018) - The No. 7 Colorado State University-Pueblo men's cross country team finished fifth of 27 teams at the Lewis University Conference Crossover in Romeoville, Illinois Saturday. Seniors Marcelo Laguera (Chihuahua, Mexico) and Derrick Williams (Columbia Falls, Mont.) placed second and third in a field of 282 runners.

The Pack totaled 181 points and the top five times averaged 2:06:09.90 in the 8K race. The event featured many teams in the top 25, including Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference rival Western State Colorado University, who won the event and ranks No. 5 nationally. The three other teams ahead of the Pack were ranked No. 11, 12, and 13. 

Laguera posted a time of 24:35.70 and finished just two seconds behind the winning time. He has two wins and a second-place finish this season. Williams was right there as well, as he crossed the finish line in 24:41.50 to claim the third-place spot. Laguera had K split times of 3:04, while Williams clocked a 3:05 K average. 

Senior Devundrick Walker (Aurora, Colo.) clocked a time of 25:50 to finish 50th. Next for the Pack was senior Alec Choury (Westminster, Colo.), who was 56th with a time of 25:55.80. Finally, junior Dylan Day (Fountain, Colo.) was the fifth member of the ThunderWolves to score with a time of 26:07.10 that was good for 72nd. 

The race was the final preparation for the RMAC Championships, set for Nov. 3 in Arvada, Colo.
